Hannah Somera (she/her/they/siya)
Communications Manager
Hannah first joined Insight Garden Program team as an AmeriCorps member, where she led the transformative rebranding of Land Together. She is a lifelong activist, dedicated community organizer, and self-proclaimed plant nerd. Her journey into gardening began with integrating plants into her interior design, eventually blossoming into a plant wall and rooftop garden company. A rare diagnosis in her early twenties shifted her focus toward plants as a source of food and medicine, igniting her passion for access to nature and healthy food for urban communities. Raised across the socioeconomic spectrum, Hannah became especially aware of the need for equitable access to green spaces and fresh, natural food.
As a UCLA certified master horticulturalist, she has built and managed community gardens at Title I schools, witnessing the powerful impact that time outdoors and working with plants can have on those affected by trauma. Her commitment to creating spaces that foster healing and well-being is matched by her passion for sharing our mission through writing, human-centered design, and story telling, amplifying our work for communities near and far. Hannah holds an Associates Degree in Visual Communications, a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts, and is pursuing her Master’s in Social Work.
