Land Together believes that reentry support and planning should begin well in advance of an individual’s release date. We integrate reentry education and skills building into our in-prison curriculum, and we provide six months of individualized pre-release coaching and case management to address the complex needs of each of our participants, and ensure continuity of care upon release.
Reentry’s ecosystem of care
-
We offer all of our participants gate pickups that include transportation, a backpack of necessities, and a hot meal with a member of the Land Together reentry team.
-
Reflecting the plan and linkages developed as part of our pre-release case management, we connect all participants with essential services like health care, mental health providers, and safe, stable housing.
-
We build community and support healing through weekly peer support circles, peer mentorship, collaborative art and culture activities, and herbal education groups.
-
We advocate for increased access to green spaces for formerly incarcerated people and we organize regular nature excursions, camping trips, and conservation/restoration projects to provide connecting, grounding, and healing experiences for our reentry participants.
-
Our trained reentry coaches cultivate safe and nurturing spaces for participants to envision the future, develop supportive practices, hold themselves accountable, goal-set, strategize, and plan.
-
We provide financial education workshops and counseling, and we cultivate partnerships with educational and financial institutions, to support participants to achieve financial and educational goals.
-
We provide leadership development and advocacy skills-building trainings, and we create opportunities for participants to have a meaningful voice in government decision-making processes that directly impact their lives.
-
We partner with vocational training programs, green workforce development agencies, and public and private job providers to help our participants secure meaningful, living wage jobs, and to eliminate institutional and cultural barriers to employment for people impacted by incarceration.
-
Access to stable, affordable housing is vital to successful reentry. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of available housing for previously incarcerated individuals. Reflecting this need and LT’s commitment to serve as a bridge between prison and sustainable reentry for our participants, we are exploring opportunities to launch our first reentry home. Our vision for the home includes a garden with fruits, vegetables, and herbs and daily personal and professional development opportunities utilizing our signature eco-therapeutic approach and hands-on permaculture training.
